The production of this project can be viewed on my youtube channel
Art of Craft is a brand which aims to change the bespoke-object market, which has become endangered due to growth of today’s ‘Flat-Pack Culture’. This project which was formed when I was set the challenge to reinvigorate a dying object/artifact/item- which having seen first hand the effects of our countries outsourcing of manufacturing I decided I would focus the project on carpentry.
To begin I had to look at why it was becoming outdated; I had to put myself in the position to realise why is it that mass production of cheap, chipboard junk has overwhelmed the crafted and quality item. To solve this I had to learn the craft itself, which inturn helped me to fully understand why the market is becoming obsolete- whilst also in part solving the brief by myself acting as a vessle for the craft to live on.
From this experience it became obvious to me that the main problem in within the craft was obtaining the information and tools needed to complete the craft project- then once it was produced there was no readily avaliable platform to sell said item to make it viable. This then led me to the creation of the Art of Craft website- a interactive platform for people of the hand-made skilled industry to collate together; share ideas, tools, and resources and give them a trading platform to sell to the public.
To promote the platform a P-O-S and accompanying video with housing was developed, which helped promote the argument that craft is best whilst also promoting and inviting people to join in the with the website to keep the craft alive.
